Are You Getting Your Greens?

Everybody knows they should be aiming to eat (a minimum) of five portions of fruit and veg a day. It’s the very base amount of fruit and vegetables that we should all be eating but how many of us are getting enough? Do you even know what constitutes a portion? Would it shock you to know that you need to eat eight florets of cauliflower to make it count? That a portion of peas, sweetcorn or cooked carrots is three heaped tablespoons? That potatoes don’t even make the cut (they’re great for you but as a starch don’t count to your five a day)! Now do you think you’re getting enough?

While we all try to work, exercise, spend time with our families, occasionally see friends and everything else that constitutes life in 2020 making sure we are eating enough good veg can be one thing that slides.

But we know that a good diet is critical to our health and that eating enough fruit and veg contributes to that.

If you feel like you’re not packing eating enough green veg one solution would be to add a green supplement like Organic Power Greens by One Nutrition to your diet.  Containing a powerful mix of greens including Spirulina, Wheatgrass, Barley Grass, Broccoli, Kale and Chlorella means that it’s naturally energy boosting. But what do those super greens do?

  • Chlorella is amazing. It contains protein, iron, vitamin C, omega 3s, antioxidants and a mix of vitamins and minerals including calcium, B vitamins, zine, magnesium and folic acid.
  • Spirulina is an excellent supplement for vegetarians and vegans. It is made up of calcium, niacin, potassium, magnesium, B vitamins and iron and a large amount of protein.
  • Wheatgrass is a powerhouse that is an excellent source of many different vitamins and minerals. It is especially high in vitamins A, C and E, as well as iron, magnesium, calcium and amino acids. It also contains several important antioxidants, including glutathione and vitamins C and E that fight free radicals to prevent cell damage and reduce oxidative stress.
  • Among its many benefits Barley Grass is an abundant source of chlorophyll – which you’ll remember converts sunlight into energy in a plant. Consuming chlorophyll releases a flow of oxygen into the bloodstream.
  • More recognisable are broccoli and kale. They are both great sources of vitamin C and K and fibre while broccoli also contains folic acid and potassium and kale contains calcium and iron.

Add your Organic Power Greens to your smoothies and protein shakes, to your morning porridge, to yoghurt or just mix with water or juice for a quick and easy hit of super greens. Take it just before or after exercise for a natural energy boost.
